An Unforgettable Earth Month in Cherry HillWe realized how ambitious our Earth Month plans were when we became exhausted just reading about them! Acting on the old adage, “We can rest when we’re dead”, we pushed forward with our month of education, fun and community building (oh, and a little fund raising too!). We hope you were able to join us for one or all of our April events and if not, check out the rest of this post! Excuse my lack of chronological presentation, but I have to share our delightful end of the month Earth Day video first. The weather at Croft Farm was magnificent, resulting in more than one of us to comment that the festival had the stamp of Mother Nature approval! We partnered with The Cherry Hill Arts Board’s long standing Art Blooms Festival to bring the community a perfect combination of green crafters/vendors, live music, delicious healthy food choices by Mirabella Cafe, kid’s programs and more. A huge thank you to our event sponsors, Alber Service Company, Body Solutions, Inc and DRPA/PATCO. A huger thank you to SCHer and Carusi Middle School teacher, Jodi Raditz, the engine and soul behind this festival for the second year in a row! Check out this video by SCHer Jay Lassiter for a taste of the day! I guess I’ll just keep going backwards in time here. On April 23rd, a group of us took a field trip to NYC to accept our EPA Region 2 Environmental Quality Award. We were thrilled to be nominated by our very Earth friendly Senator Robert Menendez for this honor, considered to be the highest public recognition given by the EPA. A beautiful description of this inspiring and exciting day by SCHer, Brenda Jorett, can be found here. On April 22nd, we held our Tapas and Local Wine/Beer Tasting Event at Mirabella Cafe with proceeds benefitting our education/outreach efforts. On April 12th, we hosted NJ State Climatologist, Dr. Robinson at The Cherry Hill Public Library for a talk about NJ’s Changing Climate. His presentation was funny, fascinating and well, depressing! In a nutshell, think “wetter and hotter”. Look for a future post describing the specifics of Dr. Robinson’s program and a link to his power point presentation. Thank you to Ed Cohen and Amy Milgrim for organizing this program. And last (or first), we had another successful Green Drinks on April 7th with loads of networking and community building. Join us the first Wednesday of every month at PJ Whelihans from 6-8pm. The next one is May 5th. See you there!! Oh, one more thing… if you think sustainability is all about CFL bulbs and hybrids, think again. Join us on May 17th for The Soul of Sustainability: Art, Beauty and Quality of Life at The Cherry Hill Library. Learn more here.
