Community enjoys Rain Garden event at library!

SCH Garden Task Force would like to thank Mike Haberland, Environmental and Resource Management Agent with the Rutgers Cooperative Extension of Burlington and Camden Counties, for an enlightening and entertaining presentation on “Gardens for a Rainy Day” held at the CH Library on Thursday, May 31st, 2012. Those in attendance were treated to a tour of the rain garden, located behind the library building, by the gentleman responsible for its design and construction.

Rain gardens are beautiful and beneficial, protecting the local waterways by intercepting runoff before it reaches the storm sewers while providing a habitat for birds and butterflies. Mike educated the group of over 40 attendees from several surrounding communities on the “how-tos” of constructing their own backyard rain gardens incorporating a variety of plants and shrubs. What a wonderful way to protect the environment!
