National Public Lands Day a Success in Cherry Hill!

The Cherry Hill Environmental Action Committee teamed up with SCH to celebrate our connection and responsibility to our shared public lands with a morning of sunshine, hard work and community spirit.  A wonderful assortment of township employees, residents, families, scouts and High School volunteers took time out of their busy weekends to get their hands dirty doing mulching and installing water “gators” on the trees at Town Hall and some even drove over to the beautiful Barclay Farmstead to lay gravel on the disability trail.  People came up to me and reported feeling grateful to have events like this to help connect them to the outdoors and to each other.  In a sprawling town like Cherry Hill, it is often challenging to find ways to bring people together and give them a sense of community.  One of the key tenants of sustainability is connect people to each other and to nature and this morning clearly accomplished both!  I’m not sure which was brighter… people’s smiling faces or the morning sun!  I have to admit that I was so busy meeting and greeting community members and talking about SCH that I didn’t get much work done!  Thank you to everyone who came out this morning and to Lew Gorman, Earl Seneres, Jen Kelley and Jim Wioland of CH Township for coordinating this terrific event.  Another big thank you to Wegmans for donating lots of water, fruit and granola bars to keep the troops well nourished!
