Sustainable Cherry Hill in the News

Have your pick of more than a dozen CSAs at SJ event

Courier Post l Jan 17, 2017

Do you plant a garden and shop farmers markets to get the freshest sweet corn, tomatoes or lettuce possible? The next step for many families interested in locally grown foods is to join a community-supported agriculture program, or CSA.

CSAs offer the chance to have in-season fruits, vegetables and other provisions straight from the farmers themselves by purchasing in advance a share of that farm’s harvest.

While Gwenne Baile still grows a few things in her yard – raspberries, for instance, and horseradish – and participates in a community garden, she depends on CSAs to provide many of the organic fruits and veggies she and her husband enjoy. A retired midwife, Baile is committed to sustainable living. She is the energy behind the region’s backyard chickens movement, and volunteers her time with GMO Free NJ, Haddon Township Community Gardeners and Sustainable Cherry Hill.
