SCH in Action: The Story of Stuff

On Thursday night, SCH hosted an intimate discussion and viewing of The Story of Stuff, an entertaining, web based video about the real story behind all the “stuff” that we buy.  After a few technical glitches showing the film, we participated in a lively and passionate discussion about sustainability.  We had community members of all ages participating in the conversation and we left the get together with lots of great ideas to ponder.  A big thank you to Lisa Feinstein for organizing this event and leading the discussion. If anyone is interested in seeing the video, just go to:  www.thestoryofstuff.com.
This small group format proved to be an ideal vehicle for engaging people in the topic of sustainability.  SCH is brainstorming other ways to get the conversation started out in the community.  We are considering having residents host small gatherings, where we would come out and show entertaining short videos, like this one and lead discussions in living rooms throughout Cherry Hill.  This “Sustainable Living Room Initiative” could be funded through a grant or private donations, as we need a laptop, projector and screen, etc. to help with our educational mission.  Anyone who is interested in hosting , learning to lead sustainability discussion groups or contributing to this initiative, please contact me or Jen Kelley.
Hope to see you all at our next Sustainable Film Event:  The 11th Hour on August 14th outside town hall.  See “Upcoming Events” for details.
