South Jersey faith community comes together to be inspired about sustainability

“God saw all that God had made, and behold, it was very good.” Genesis 1:31

Last night, over 50 representatives of the diverse South Jersey faith community came together to watch a screening of the award winning film, RENEWAL. According to Stacey Kennealy, Director of Sustainability for Green Faith, RENEWAL is the only full length documentary about faith and the environment. Stacey kicked off SCH’s interfaith sustainability effort with an explanation of Green Faith and their efforts to “inspire, educate and mobilize people of diverse religious traditions to deepen their relationship with the sacred in nature and to take action for the earth.” She also talked about the “nuts and bolts’ aspects to sustainability, indicating that all religious organizations have buildings and business practices that could benefit from increasing efficiencies and saving money.

The film was beautiful, inspiring and educational. The group gave a rousing round of applause at its conclusion and seemed interested in coming together again for a follow up program with GreenFaith. Stay tuned for more information about SCH’s interfaith sustainability efforts and please contact me at lori.braunstein@sustainablecherryhill.org to become involved.

Today, SCH board member and “Sustainable Worship” task force leader, Anne Simonoff and I are heading to a meeting of the Cherry Hill Religious Leaders Coalition to hear GreenFaith Executive Director, Rev. Fletcher Harper speak to the group about faith and sustainability.

Thank you, Stacey for joining us last night!
